Radon and Lead Information

The Radon and Lead Information Program provides public awareness programs to the general public, realtors, home builders, students, the medical community and local elected officials.
Radon Program
The program is designed to promote awareness and provide education on what radon is, the health risks of radon exposure and how to reduce radon levels in your home. In addition, the program has expanded to address indoor air quality, especially in schools, including issues related to lead toxicity.
Citizens can receive a FREE radon test kit. Simply visit the Environmental Health Office at 804A Newtown Circle.
The program is funded by an EPA grant and a NACo Award.
Call (859) 231-9791 to schedule a radon presentation for your organization or for more information about free test kits.

Lead Program
The Lead Program began in 1996 with a two-fold task. The first is to protect children from lead poisoning by investigating all cases of lead-poisoned children under age six, and having corrections made of any associated lead hazards. The second is to regulate lead abatement in target housing and child-occupied facilities through permitting of abatement projects and quality assurance inspections. Call (859) 231-9791 for more information.
The Cabinet for Health Services regulates all lead abatement projects and can answer any of your questions.
